We had to disappoint the lady we hired the apartment from that we were going to leave Sarajevo that day. Fortunately we only had to pay for the day we used the apartment. For the rest of the afternoon we walked to the famous Latin bridge and sat down in a chair enjoying a Turkish coffee or beer, waiting for the train to arrive at Sarajevo railway station.
The Latin bridge over Miljacka river - also called Princip bridge - is the site where Austro-Hungarian throne-heir Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by Gavrilo Princip on June 28 1914 , which was the cause for the beginning of the first World War. There are a lot of things in Sarajevo which remind you of the fact that Sarajevo once was a city in the Austria-Hungarian Empire. In trams some information and warnings are still original plates in German language.
