Sveti Jure in Dalmatien auf Deutsch
Sveti Jure in Dalmatië in het Nederlands
During our Dalmatia holiday in May 2006 in Supetar on the island Brač for the first time we made a trip to the mountain top Sveti Jure in the Biokovo mountains in Dalmatia. Biokovo lies on the Dalmatian coast and between river Neretva. A city that we visited in 2008 and that is on Neretva river is Mostar. In Supetar we hired a car, drove across the island Brač to the harbour of Sumartin, where the ferry departs across the Adriatic sea to Makarska on the Dalmatian continent. While approaching the Dalmatian coast you will get a splendid sight of Makarska and the Biokovo mountains that rise high above it to an altitude of 1762 meter, which is the top Sveti Jure. Meanwhile it has become our most favourite attraction of the Balkans and so it is on number one position in our Balkan top 10 You will find the entrance of nature park Biokovo by taking the road on the left hand towards Vrgorac at the junction at the end of Makarska driving towards Dubrovnik. After a few minutes you will find the entrance on your left hand. The fee is 30 Kuna. Children for free, but this is the case almost everywhere in Croatia. That day in May there were still huge heaps of snow on top. Since that day we have visited nature park Biokovo every year. In 2007 one early morning we even rode around the Nature park on scooters through the valley on the backside of the Biokovo mountains in the Dalmatian hinterland close to the border of Bosnia and Herzegovina. After a beautiful ride along Cetina river and a meal in fisher town Omiš we continued our day trip and after 90 minutes of ascending we stood on top of Sveti Jure in the late afternoon when the sun was setting An amazing moment. It was already October but the weather was just great. There was no snow at all. At the moment of rewriting this little report in August 2008 it was 3 months ago that we have been on top of Dalmatia for the third time. Again Jennifer had the time of her life being able to make a snowman. If you go there yourself, be sure to order an excellent mixed grill in the restaurant at the middle station. Also buy a bottle of home made Travarica to remember those experiences in Dalmatia.
