Road from motorway exit Šestanovac to the coastal road Jadranska Magistrala

It was April 30th 2009. Early in the morning we had said goodbye to the kind Šikić family in Starigrad near Zadar in Croatia, where we spent two nights. The day before we had a great and sportive experience in Paklenica national park where we walked to an altitude of 500 meter to the mountain hut. After a French bread with some ham, pršut, which we simply bought in the supermarket, we jumped in our car and started driving towards Makarska, our destination for two the next two days. Before we would get there we visited the place where the webmaster's parents were going to spent there holiday: Vodice. We also had lunch there and took some photos in hotel Punta, to show at home what the accommodation was like. It was cloudy and cold that day. From Šibenik we continued our journey on the motorway. In Šibenik we once had lunch in 2006 when we were on our way to national park Krka and the waterfalls. After a few hours we reached the exit Šestanovac. We paid the motorway toll and knew that it would not be taking long until we were going to have the best Lasagne in Croatia again :-)

Yummy, grilled Adriatic fish that makes you mouth watering
Like every year restaurant Vrata Biokova is a special attraction
A dream came true: in our very own Ford Escort climbing mount Sveti Jure

We even were going to have two overnight stays right above the pizzeria bistro Sunshine were we have enjoyed quite some beers and bottles of Pelješac. After some kilometres we reached the gate to the Makarska riviera; a spot where you suddenly after a turn will have a magic view on the Adriatic sea and the island of Brač. After some hairpin turns you will reach the Jadranska magistrala, the Croatian coastal road. We noticed that there have been wildfire not long ago. A terrible view. The owner of the pizzeria and the apartments Aljihan was happy to see us again and so were we to be his guest for two days. The accommodation was clean and luxury, yet quite cheap. After being invited to a drink we took our properties to our room and took a walk to the harbour to sit in a chair and enjoy the magic environment of this beautiful town on the foot of the Biokovo mountains. A better place to be compared to a city in Holland where there would be the celebration of queen's day.

A day later we joined the celebration of May Day in the harbour of Makarska. A political party served grilled fish and white wine for free, which both tasted good. Later that day we started, which was what we had wished in the past years: a visit to mount Sveti Jure in our very own twenty years old Ford Escort cabriolet. This time it was Anita's turn to take us to an altitude of 1762 meter in more or less her car. Of course we planned our tour to the summit in a way, that we were able to have dinner about six o'clock in the restaurant at the middle station called Vrata Biokova. If you will also be there once, do order the mixed grill "Vrata Biokovo" from the menu, sit on the terrace and enjoy the magic view of the Adriatic sea and the Dalmatian islands on an altitude of 897 meters. It was a great experience to reach the top of Biokovo mountains in our cabriolet. A dream came true. For us there is no visit to Sveti Jure, without the short walk to the Chapel with the same name.
