About our website Overview On holiday Balkans Balkan top 10 Camping Day trips City trips
(All trips do it yourself of course)
To be able to provide you with an overview of our most interesting trips, things to do, and tourist attractions you must see in Dalmatia and the Balkans, e.g. a picturesque island or old town, a interesting nature park or national park or a special locations with an amazing view, we selected ten photos that we took from ten different trips to a nature or national park, the old town of Dubrovnik, Split or Trogir, beautiful islands like Korčula or the peninsula Pelješac and then we started voting by giving points to them, giving the best liked tour ten points and of course still one point to the last remaining photo. This way some of the very many tourist attractions, cities with an old town, national and nature parks and other interesting things to do in Dalmatia, the most beautiful part of Croatia have become listed in our personal Balkan top 10
1. Nature park Biokovo and mount Sveti Jure

For years already our number one attraction and a must do for us every holiday in Croatia: the ascend tthrough nature park Biokovo to mount Sveti Jure. A trip along the steep Dalmatian coast over hairpin turns and after that the road continues between the famous chalk rocks to the highest peak of Croatia on an altitude of 1762 meter. During our first holiday in Dalmatia in 2006 we discovered the highest Croatian touristic road through nature park Biokovo by hired car. In October 2007 we ascended mount sveti Jure by scooter, the only visit when there was no snow. When you reach the middle station on about 850 metres, don't forget to order a mixed grill in restaurant Vrata Biokova, which is what we did for the first time duringour third visit to the Biokovo-peak by hired car in 2008. Enjoy your meal with a magic view of the Dalmatian islands and surrounded by domestic animals. Take a bottle of home made Travarica to remember your holiday at home. A dream came true when we reached mount Sveti Jure in Anita's very own 21 years old Ford Escort cabriolet in 2009. The most thrilling and tiring was the hike on foot to mount Sveti Jure during our second holiday in Dalmacija hotel in Makarska.
2. Dubrovnik and the old city wall.

If you are on holiday in central or southern Dalmatia, Dubrovnik is a must see: take a walk through the old town and over the city wall with splendid views over the Adriatic Sea and the narrow streets and places of the old town. Take a seat on a side walk terrace in a narrow street or on a square in the old town, order a cappuccino and start absorbing the atmosphere and the beauty that the pearl of the Adriatic Sea has to offer.
3. Mostar and old bridge Stari Most

Hire a car and visit Mostar, drive along Neretva river, enjoy the silence on deserted spots and enjoy the beauty of the landscape of Herzegovina with its countless mountain peaks of which some are covered with snow. A must do is taking a walk through the beautiful old town. Take a seat at restaurant Babilon with view of the magic old bridge Stari Most and order a mixed grill. Check out our report about our visit to Mostar with 3 overnight stays during our Balkan tour 2009 with our very own 21 years old Ford Escort Cabriolet
No matter if you arrive by Ferry, or just walking from a neighbouring village or simply taking photos on the peninsula Sveti Petar: the attraction of Makarska is the same everywhere.
5. National park Krka and the waterfalls

The river Krka leaves the river-bed and changes into wild water attraction that covers large parts of the Dalmatian hinterland. Don't forget to buy an extra storage card for your digital camera. You will need it!
6. Village Bol and beach Zlatni Rat

The Picturesque village Bol and the famous beach Zlatni rat which means golden horn are located on the south side of the Dalmatian Brač island . According to Jennifer this excursion deserves all the points, but we think that was because we made that trip by scooter. Also visit the highest peak of all Adriatic Islands which is on Brač and is called Vidova Gora.
Korčula town on the island with the same name has a fascinating centre with beautiful narrow streets and a splendid view on the neighbouring peninsula Pelješac. One claims here that Marco Polo was born on Korčula.
8. Island of Hvar and City of Hvar

Hire a scooter and take the trip over the long island from east to the Mediterranean town Hvar on the west side and you would believe you are in Monaco on the côte d'azur.
West of Split lies the city of Trogir that was ever founded by Greek colonists with the St. Lawrence Cathedral in the breathtaking old town kernel, that like Dubrovnik, Split and Korčula-town ones is in the register of world heritage of Unesco
Visit the old town of Split and the palace of Roman emperor Diocletian, climb the bell tower and enjoy a splendid view over the harbour and the streets of the old part of Split. Split is also a very important traffic junction, because many Dalmatian islands are only reachable from the harbour of Split.
