Elfter im Elften Heumarkt Köln auf Deutsch
Opening carnavalsseizoen Keulen in het Nederlands
Every year on November 11th the traditional opening of the carnival season takes place in many German and Dutch cities, especially in those regions that have a Roman Catholic Religion. Therefore the webmaster supposes that number eleven is associated with carnival. Or was November 11th chosen as the perfect date for celebration because the number 11 was already associated with carnival for some other reason? We went to by train with Hannie, Wim, Gerrie and Frans. On weekdays the German Railway company has a ticket for maximum 5 travellers available, that calls itself "happy day ticket", costs 29.50 and is valid from 09.00 a.m. After arrival at Cologne's Main Railway station - the Hauptbahnhof - we walked straight to the square where all takes place: the Heumarkt. Like every year it was going to be crowded and we wanted to have a good sight on the carnival artists. The Boore, the Höhner, the Bläck Fööss, the Räuber and the Paveier are all local artists that also have a good reputation in the German speaking parts of the Netherlands, in particular Limburg and Brabantic and some other area's along the German border.
